I think today Connor really did start to make an effort to sign. Previously he's done an attempt at milk, but it could have easily been just standard baby grabbing hand trying to get something or get it close. It never seemed to be in the context of milk before. Today he really seemed to sign milk at me when he wanted milk. He also seemed to copy my good bye yesterday too, he found it really funny to watch the waving. While eating tea he looked at the light and signed light. It was really quite obvious and he repeated it a few times too.
Just before 1 year Leo started to sign, he started with food because Jordan wouldn't share his biscuit with cheese and jamon serrano! Then shortly after he did cold because he had one sock on and one sock off while walking on tiles. Light was a big one in the early days too. He would fixate on lights when going into a new room and often got quite excited about all lights.
Hopefully this is the start of him signing and being able to communicate with us. I think Leo will really like him being able to communicate.

Leo's 2nd Swimming Lesson
2nd swimming lesson and Leo didn´t cry at all. He wasn't reluctant to get into the pool and got in when the teacher asked. The teacher took him up and down on the noodle a few times, and then Leo was on his own swimming himself with the noodle under his chest, under his stomach and then in front of his hands. After the reluctance of his first lesson when he cried a fair bit this is a superb jump. He jumped from the steps onto the instructor and the noodle and almost he got into the swimming pool when the teacher asked so no reluctance either. He swam up and down on the noodle, jumped off the steps onto the swimming instructor. Considering it was only his second lesson he's doing really well. Leo always seem resistant to things at the start and it seems like he will not have a go at all, but then the next time he's generally open to having a go. I think he's just quite cautious and likes to think about things before trying them. The next swimming hurdle appears to be getting his head under the water. He picked the toys up off the bottom without getting his head in. I suppose this is practice for his swimming in pajamas and rescuing a brick.

Connor - nearly 1 year
Connor is very nearly 1 year old, no idea how that´s happened.
So at nearly 12 months his favorite game is peekaboo. Yesterday he really got into it and hid in the tent and peeked his head out laughing. Both boys really enjoy tents and tunnels and can play quite nicely together, when I say nicely I mean things can get heated but on the whole they can have quite a bit of fun together and get very high pitched. Chasing also goes down well, especially if they are chasing through the tunnel.
At the minute he loves to just take himself outside and either sit on the step banging half a broken blade from an angle grinder. Leo brought it back from the workshop when he was searching for treasure in his pull along truck, he also had a piece of plastic and piece of masking tape. Connor will just sit outside on the step banging a stick or the angle grinder blade. Then maybe he'll take himself off and just sit in the dirt, maybe picking stones up and dropping them, or just sifting through the dirt. It's amazing how long they can both spend outside just pottering about, keeps them way more occupied than any toys.
Anything in the house will be pushed around, chairs are relocated, washing baskets are pushed about, he spent about 10 minutes or more one afternoon pushing a bowl from the living room, down the hall to the bedroom and back to the living room again.
He is definatly a climber and loves to go into Leo's room and climb his garage. He managed to get himself up onto the sofa yesterday too so that's the beginning of a new stage of mobility.
His walking has been slow progress, or slower than Leo. He hadn´t progressed much beyond the odd step but has now actually taken a few more steps and is sometimes taking about 4 or more steps. With the new found ability to move he has decided that highchairs are only for sitting in while eating. If food is not there within seconds of being put in the high chair he will stand up and try to climb out. This week he was also climbing Leo's Ikea unit with the pull out plastic tubs, Connor had climbed up the one with cars in and was holding onto the top teetering on the edge of the plastic tub.

Swimming time
We finally got the fence at the front covered so we're no longer a goldfish bowl for all the neighbors to see. Which meant the pool was put up in the middle of the garden in the flattest area. The aim was to have fun in the pool, but also get Leo used to the water before going back to the UK in summer when he is having swimming lessons. I have a float for him and green foam noodle, the theory is to get him holding the float with the noodle under his body and he starts kicking. The first day he refused to hold the float and get his feet off the floor, absolutely refused. I was starting to wonder how on earth we'd get him to have a go, I don't like to force him as often he likes to see something and have a think before trying it. He says he doesn´t want to go on a bouncy castle but after a bit he will have a jump and really enjoy it.
The second time in the pool he actually got himself on the float, feet off the floor and kicked. Wow, progress. Then when Jordan went in after tea he went in again, it was quite cool by then and he was shivering before long. But while Jordan was in there and they were playing with the balls and fishing net he stayed in. This time he had even more kicking practice and was doing really well.
The next time there was no resistance to swimming with the float and the noodle and he really got some good practice in. Connor just slowly floats about in his float and drifts off to sleep, which is quite handy. After a few days Leo is now holding the float with the noodle under him, he kicks and can actually move around the pool, he also started to change direction in the water today and just float about with his float and noodle. Next on the list is starting to practice blowing bubbles so he can practice breathing out under the water and breathing in over the water.

Connor is Walking
The other day Connor decided to take a few steps. Now and then he'll turn round and maybe take a step or two, nothing more than that at the minute and generally not when we put him on the mat standing up ready for a display of skills. But nonetheless it's some steps. When we stand him up he still often goes to crawling rather than practice his walking, but a few times a day he has a little go. He is so stable on his feet now and often just stands up, he's currently playing with the toys on his jumparoo on the outside rather than being sat in it.

Leo gets a proper bike
I picked up a proper bike with stabilisers for Leo on Friday afternoon. Friday evening he was out on it until 9.30, it went down really well. He also said while cycling about that it was really nice of us to have got him the bike too. Connor was pushed about on the trike and both enjoyed chasing each other. Connor hasn't quite got the concept of steering or always holding onto the bars, but that will come.
The next day Leo was obviously feeling quite grown up after riding a proper bike, so he told us he was a big boy now and had hair all over. He hasn´t started growing body hair and he is still 3, but I guess the bike just makes him feel more grown up. All he wants to do now is ride everywhere, Jordan has slightly raised the stabilisers so they don't hold up the back wheel so much when riding about the garden. For a while he did want the stabilisers off, but soon realised that for now he does need to have them on. The next plan will be for us to get bikes and a seat for Connor so we can go off for a ride. He's been down the lane but really wanted to go further and can get a bit of speed up so it won't be long before he's too fast, doesn't want to wait, and doesn't want to come back just because we got to the end of the tarmac and Connors trike doesn't work so well on the bumpy road.
